Scientist: BP (NYSE:BP) Oil Report Misleading and Incomplete

Professor Ian MacDonald, a nationally renowned Scientist at Florida State said, the governments report on where the BP (NYSE:BP) oil has gone is misleading and incomplete. He is extremely disappointed because the report doesn't give any details on the process scientists used to compile data and came to their conclusions.

MacDonald feels the report is public relations, having nothing to do with actual science. The total amount of oil that was deposited into the Gulf is 4.9 million barrels. According to the governments estimates, 25 percent of the oil was skimmed, burned, or recovered. An additional 25 percent dissolved or evaporated, while 24 percent was dispersed through chemicals or naturally. That leaves only 26 percent remaining in the environment.

"That residual oil at the 26 percent level represents five Exxon Valdez quantities of oil released into the Gulf of Mexico, still there these many months later and likely to stay there for years to come," said MacDonald. He does believe that the 26 percent is an extremely low estimate, but even that number is staggering.

BP's (NYSE:BP) Hayward Denies Oil Plumes Exist

BP (NYSE:BP) has said many things, Tony Hayward is now saying that the oil plumes don't exist, but scientist are saying they do. This seems to just be another attempt by BP to try and not take responsibility for their actions.

Scientist say there are several deadly oil plumes that have been spotted in the Gulf of Mexico. According to the scientists, they were created by the combination of the oil, gas, and chemical dispersants unleashed into the Gulf. The plumes create what's called dead zones where there is no oxygen and nothing can survive in or around them.

There is one oil plume only 35 miles from Florida's shore in the Panhandle. There is another plume 22 miles long and 6 feet wide that reaches to a depth of 3,300 lingering in the Gulf. As well as also the first plume to be discovered that is 10 miles long, 3 miles wide, and 300 feet deep. Other plumes remain in deeper waters.

What BP is trying to prove by continuing to lie isn't for certain. Considering there is proof of the existence of the oil plumes caused by the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

Scientist's Saying BP's (NYSE:BP) Losing 850,000 Gallons Daily

As the debate continues, independent scientists are estimating that BP (NYSE:BP) is losing at a minimum, 850,000 gallons a day. There are many scientist that are in agreement that BP and Obama's administration continue to downplay the actual amount of oil that is spewing at a massive rate.

"This is an all hands on deck crisis, and we need to use every asset the U.S. has, including the defense department and all of its most sophisticated technology," said Rep. Ed Markey.

There has been many members of Congress, local officials, as well as environmental organizations in the effected states, that are pushing for the federal government to take over the oil response efforts.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, on CBS's Face the Nation, seemed to advocate the government simply taking over BP as a whole.
