BP (NYSE:BP) it seems, can't get a break. As they continue to struggle to get some control, the oil from the explosion is forming plumes. Three or four have been found, one as big as 10 miles long and a mile wide. Sunday being the third day of this attempt, there's still no promising outcome.
BP is trying to thread a tube into the leak one mile below the surface. This attempt is being done by remote submersibles which are being directed by engineers. If they are able to succeed, oil would then be redirected to a tanker.
It's only a matter of time before this oil reaches land. The U.S is expected to see the first effects of this.
With the oil plumes going to a depth of 4,000 feet, the oxygen levels beneath the surface of the water have dropped and is expected to continue. The government has approved the use of chemicals where the oil is gushing out. If successful, the chemicals will break up the oil before reaching the surface of the water.
