BP (NYSE:BP) has finally had success, even if just small. Several prior attempts to contain the oil that was blasting out at by BP's estimation of 5,000 barrels a day, were to no avail. Today, BP was successful in getting a mile long tube threaded into the leak.
The tubing won't totally stop the oil. Experts are worried that the oil has already gotten into a current. If so, it would take the oil to the shore lines of the Florida Keys and the East Coast.
To add insult to injury, an investigation done by the Associated Press discovered that the Deepwater Horizon wasn't having the required monthly testing done. It was known for its safety record, now it's being said that it's started the worst environmental disaster since Exxon Valdez.
Not to mention the fatalities.
The government has made it clear that BP is fully responsible. Until the spill is completely cleaned up and the wellhead is capped, this is considered just a band aid.
